Director: Peyton Reed
Cast: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly
‘Ant-Man’ marks yet another chapter in the “superheroes done right” trend that’s taken Hollywood by storm. A successful mix of action and comedy, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe avoids all the pitfalls of an origin story. It rarely slows down, and when it does, it’s to give the audience the fundamental information necessary to better understand the universe of this lesser-known (at least to those not familiar with the Avengers comic books) character.
Edgar Wright’s script never overdoses anything: you get just the right amount of comedic and ironic moments, but it never feels as if the movie is trying too hard to get that laugh out of you. The cast’s timing and chemistry really leave no doubt that they couldn’t have chosen better actors for these roles.
The action is fast-paced, the visual effects truly impressive. Director Peyton Reed – the guy behind hit comedies like… ‘Bring It On’ – simply nailed it.
It looks like Marvel Studios learned the most important lesson in the superhero business: nothing sells like quality.
