Last night, when I popped the Blu-ray in, I was afraid I’d get bored out of my mind watching a movie I – like most people, I guess – am so familiar with. Surprisingly enough, ‘Titanic’ was still capable of keeping me engaged from start to finish, in spite of the fact that I still retained pretty accurate memories of every major scene.
I first saw this film when it came out in 1997. I was 12 years old, and I can still remember the theater packed with people like I had never seen it before. For a while after, it seemed cool to bash it (and Leo) for no real reason. I suppose it was some sort of “rejection” due to the overexposure to its massive marketing campaign. But the truth is ‘Titanic’ was and still is a very good movie. It’s epic, spectacular and moving, brilliantly directed and well acted.
I won’t try to convince you to watch ‘Titanic’, because you probably already have. More than once, admit it. So, yeah, I’m just stating the obvious: it’s a really good movie!

That Movie Nut 
Titanic is that rare movie that still feels like a big movie nearly twenty years later. Rewatching it is an event. I’ll admit to Leo bashing though. I only really came around with him when I saw The Departed.

When it comes to Leo bashing, I’m guilty as charged. I started acknowledging his worth as an actor after ‘The Departed’, too. I still think that his performance in ‘Titanic’ is not as good as Kate’s, but I believe it’s because of the fact that Rose, as a character, offers more inner conflicts to work with.
Even if one doesn’t enjoy the romantic elements of the movie, there’s still plenty of good reasons to watch ‘Titanic’, especially for people interested in becoming a director or any other technical professional figure in the film industry. What James Cameron and his crew pulled off literally made history.

Yes, you really feel like you know what’s it was like to be on the Titanic. The sense of time and place is masterful .
I think you may be right about Kate having more to work with but I also think she’s probably the better of the two actors.

Once again, I agree with you. I base my opinion on ‘Revolutionary Road’, a fantastic drama in which Kate and Leo shared some really powerful scenes; they were both great, but Winslet was always a little better. I think Di Caprio is talented, and one of his main talents is his ability to choose really good movies, with excellent scripts and directors. On the other hand, there are moments when you can actually see the “acting” in his work, you can see Leo “playing” the character rather than “being” the character. That was quite evident to me with his performance in ‘Django Unchained’.

Completely agree. I was one of those people that thought this was a bad film without giving it proper attention. Watching it now you realise how good it is.
